Custom Home & Barndominium Design Trends in Tarrant County

Two master suites, barndominiums, open plans with a door somewhere, real outdoor living, and energy sense over hype — the design trends North Texas families are actually building, from a Fort Worth custom home and barndominium builder.

We build custom homes and barndominiums across Fort Worth, Aledo, Weatherford, Keller, and the rest of Tarrant and Parker County — which means we spend a lot of time listening to what North Texas families actually want in a home. Not what a design magazine says they should want. Here are the trends we’re seeing on real projects right now, and what’s worth knowing before you put any of them in your own plan.

1. Two master suites under one roof

More families are planning for parents, in-laws, or grown kids from day one. On our current barndominium build, the plan includes two full master suites — one on each floor. Done right, a second suite means thinking through plumbing runs, HVAC zoning, and privacy early in the floor plan, not bolting a bedroom on later. If multi-generation living is even a maybe for your family, tell your builder at the design table. It’s a far cheaper conversation there than after the slab is poured.

2. The barndominium isn’t a fad anymore

Steel-frame custom homes — barndos — keep growing across Texas, and for practical reasons: wide-open spans with no load-bearing interior walls, durability against Texas weather, and shells that go up efficiently so more of the budget lands on the finishes you’ll actually live with. We walk through the trade-offs honestly on our Fort Worth barndominium builders page. The short version: a barndo rewards families who want space and flexibility more than formal rooms.

3. Open floor plans, but with a door somewhere

The all-open concept is softening. Families still want the big kitchen-living-dining space, but nearly everyone now asks for one room that closes — an office, a homework room, a quiet den. When we design a floor plan with you, we ask where you’ll take a phone call at 2pm on a Tuesday. If the answer is “the truck,” the plan needs a door.

4. Outdoor living designed in, not added on

Covered patios, outdoor kitchens, and big back porches are being drawn into the original plan instead of tacked on later. In our climate you get eight or nine usable months outside if the shade and airflow are right — and porch roofs, beams, and slab all cost less when they’re part of the original structure instead of a retrofit.

5. Energy sense over energy hype

Nobody asks us for buzzwords; they ask why their summer electric bill stings. Spray-foam done right, honest window choices, and correctly sized HVAC do more for a Texas home than any gadget. Because we build open-book, you see the actual line-item cost of every efficiency upgrade and decide for yourself whether it earns its keep. That’s the whole point of open-book pricing — you put the money where it matters to you.

What this means for your build

Trends are only useful if they fit how your family actually lives. Bring us your plan — or just your ideas — and we’ll design around your life, price it line by line, and build it to a standard we’re willing to put our name on. Our foundation is faith. Our standard is craftsmanship.

Thank you for this Post about Interrior Design. This is always where I get overwhelmed with “where do I start”. This has helped me develop a game plan that I was able to actually complete!
This seems like common sense but if you have never done a complete interior design of a large space like a living room, it is not so easy with out help from experts like Chris and his Team, putting out content for DIY’ers like myself.
